Tuning programme to resolve poor combustion

Country:
Malaysia
Location:
Edrah Jimah
Fuel Type:
Coal

Key challenges

This 1,400MW sub-critical coal-fired power station located in Port Dickson, was experiencing issues associated with poor combustion.

RJM Solution

RJM was engaged to carry out a Combustion Tuning programme to improve the performance of the plant without making any changes to the existing plant design. The combustion tuning programme was successfully executed remotely due to Covid travel restrictions.

Results

Boiler temperature distribution and combustion performance were both improved following the combustion tuning programme, and RJM were able to identify shortfalls with the existing combustion plant design. RJM have submitted a proposal for a full furnace CFD study and a burner modification programme to address these shortfalls.
