Coal-to-biomass feasibility study

Country:
Italy
Location:
EPH Fiume Santo
Fuel Type:
Coal

Key challenges

This 600 MW coal-fired plant in Sardinia, owned by Czech utility EPH, tasked RJM with reviewing its options for converting to biomass fuel operation.

RJM Solution

RJM carried out a detailed study, looking at every aspect of plant operation, from materials handling and fuel storage, through to combustion emissions and ash.It also carried out a CFD analysis of the coal splitter, using different colours to track fuel particle trajectories by their diameters.

Results

EPH is committed to a low carbon agenda and is now reviewing its options for its plant at Fiume Santo.
