RJM appoints Dr Gerry Riley

RJM International, the Winchester-based provider of emissions reduction solutions to power stations and large combustion plant has appointed Dr. Gerry Riley, FIMechE, CEng as Principal Fuels and Combustion Engineer to support RJM’s growing portfolio of major Ultra-Low NOx Burner retro-fit and biomass conversion projects in the UK and overseas.

Before joining RJM, Gerry Riley was Corporate Engineer for Fuels and Combustion within RWE npower’s Engineering department.

A Mechanical Engineering graduate, Gerry has over 27 years’ experience in fuels, combustion, design, construction and commissioning of fossil-fuelled and biomass-fuelled plant in the power generation sector.

Most recently, Gerry has headed up a number of biomass-related projects including conversion feasibility studies and biomass fuel firing assessment programmes. As Manager of RWE’s Combustion Test Facility, Gerry has also led programmes assessing other fuels, such as petroleum coke, orimulsion, various imported coals and analysed the impact of related technologies including overfire air and coal re-burn.

During his career, Gerry has also authored over 60 technical papers on various aspects of combustion in relation to large utility boilers.

Commenting on his appointment, John Goldring, Managing Director of RJM International said, “Gerry combines real scientific knowledge based on sound R&D of the different combustion characteristics of various fuels, with a solid track record of successfully managing and implementing major new fuel change programmes at power stations in the UK and overseas.

“I am therefore really delighted that he is joining the team here at RJM to support some of the large projects we’re currently working on with global generators both here in the UK and overseas,” he added.

Gerry Riley confirmed, “RJM has a fantastic reputation in the sector as a business that really does deliver results, whether ultra-low emissions, resolving complex efficiency issues or introducing biomass co-firing to conventional power  plants, so I am very pleased to be joining the company at this exciting stage in its development.”
